HOW TO BECOME A PERSONAL STYLIST
A guide for those who love fashionβand want to make a difference
Have you ever looked at someone and thought, βI know exactly what would bring out their best featuresβ? Or maybe youβve helped a friend find the perfect dress and watched their confidence instantly lift. If that sounds like you, you might be ready to explore a career in personal styling.
Iβm Stefania, founder of One Of A Style, and I work with real people who want to feel more confident, more visible, and more themselves, through what they wear. My journey into styling was born from a love of fashion, a desire to connect with people, and years of working in the industry. Hereβs what Iβve learnedβand how you can start your own path.
My Story: How I Became a Personal Stylist
My journey began in Florence, where fashion is in the air we breathe. I trained in Fashion Design and spent nearly a decade working behind the scenes in the industryβsketching, sourcing, creating. But something was missing. I loved fashion, but I wanted more connection. I wanted to work with real people, not just runway samples.
I moved to London with no network, no clients, and no blueprint. I started from scratch. I had to build trust, one styling session at a time. I said yes to opportunities that scared me and stayed true to my valuesβalways listening, always learning, and never compromising on integrity.
Now, I've styled hundreds of women, collaborated with brands, been featured in publications, and even spoken on stageβbut I still remember those early days. And if I can do it, you can too.
Step 1: Get Clear on What a Personal Stylist Really Does
Itβs not about trends or runway looks. Itβs about people.
A good personal stylist doesnβt dress people for Instagram. They dress them for their everyday lifeβtheir work meetings, their school runs, their date nights, their big moments. Itβs about confidence and connection, not just colour palettes and hemlines.
Youβll need:
An understanding of body shapes and proportions
A good eye for colour and fit
Strong listening skills
Patience, empathy, and creativity
If you love clothes and people, youβre already halfway there.
Step 2: Start Learning the Foundations
You donβt need a fashion degree to be a great stylist, but you do need knowledge. Begin with:
Body shapes and how to flatter them
Colour analysis and seasonal palettes
Wardrobe editing techniques
How to shop smartβfor others, not just yourself
Personal branding and style identity
There are online courses, books, and even Instagram stylists you can learn from. The key is to keep learning and test everything on real people, not mannequins.
Step 3: Practice with Real People
You learn styling by doing styling. Start where you are:
Offer to help friends or family edit their wardrobes
Style someone for an event
Create looks from what they already own
Try personal shopping on a small budget
Youβll quickly learn to read peopleβs needs, adapt your approach, and build trust, which is at the heart of what we do.
Step 4: Develop Your Style Point of View
Your clients will come to you because of your personality, not just your style. So start asking yourself:
What do I believe makes someone stylish?
Whatβs my approach to confidence, identity, and clothes?
Do I love classic, bold, feminine, edgy, or something else?
This is how you start building your brand, whether online, offline, or through word of mouth.
Step 5: Start Showing Up
Even before youβre fully βready,β start sharing your passion.
Post outfit ideas, colour tips, or wardrobe insights
Talk about your styling experiments
Share client stories (with permission)
Build a simple website or Instagram presence
Youβre not expected to be perfect, just real and relatable.
Step 6: Connect with Those Who Inspire You
No stylist becomes successful alone. Surrounding yourself with people who challenge and inspire you will accelerate your growth in ways you canβt imagine.
Follow stylists you admire. Reach out to people in the industry. Ask questions. Stay curious.
And if my story, approach, or values resonate with you, Iβd love to hear from you.
Whether youβre just starting out or taking the first brave steps into this career, Iβm always happy to share insights or simply connect.
>> Work with me or get in touch
Step 7: Launch Your Styling Services (When Youβre ReadyβReally Ready)
Once youβve built your knowledge, gained hands-on experience, and grown your confidence, you might feel ready to offer paid services. Thatβs a huge stepβand one worth taking with care and intention.
Before you fully go solo, I always recommend:
Working alongside experienced stylists, if you can observe, assist, and learn
Being honest with clients about where you are in your journey
Offering clear, well-defined services that reflect what you can do (not what you think you βshouldβ do)
Pricing your services in a way that reflects your experience and the transformation you provide
One Golden Rule Above
And above all, respect the people you work with.
That means not copying their materials, not taking credit for their ideas, and absolutely not poaching clients. Thereβs space for all of us in this industry, but only if we operate with integrity and respect.
Take inspiration, learn generously, but always create your own voice, your own brand, and your own way of serving.
You donβt need to have it all figured out. Just a clear heart, an honest approach, and the courage to start where you are.
In this industry, your name is your brand.
What Iβve never done and not done:
Iβve never copied someone elseβs materials
Iβve never poached clients
Iβve never pretended to be further along than I was
Iβve built One Of A Style with honesty, kindness, and originality, and you can too.
That includes how you invest in yourself: Photography? Worth budgeting for. A great website? Helpful. But nothing replaces authenticity. Take inspiration, but build your own voice.
And remember: thereβs room for collaboration, not just competition
Styling can feel like a solo journey, but it doesnβt have to be. Reach out to others in the industry, ask questions, offer help, and share ideas. Some of the most rewarding opportunities in my career have come from genuine collaboration, not rivalry.
When you lead with kindness, creativity, and integrity, youβll always find your people, and your place.

HOW TO DRESS YOUR BUST: FLATTERING STYLE TIPS FOR EVERY SIZE
"I wish I could find clothes that flatter my shape without having to hide my bust." We hear this all the timeβwhether youβre curvier up top or have a petite frame, dressing your bust can feel unnecessarily frustrating.
At One Of A Style, we believe style should empower youβnot restrict you. Thatβs why weβre sharing our favourite tips to help you dress your bust with confidence, clarity, and joyβno matter your cup size.
First Things First: The Foundation
The single biggest style shift most of our clients make? Getting their lingerie right. Before you even think about necklines or fabrics, make sure your bra is supporting you properly.
Try this before your next outfitβtighten your bra straps. You might be amazed at how your whole silhouette lifts.
Your Bust Styling Essentials:
Annual bra fittings β Department stores like Selfridges or Rigby & Peller offer expert fittings.
A solid lingerie toolkit β We recommend a t-shirt bra, plunge, strapless, skin-toned, and sports bra at a minimum.
Strap checks β Saggy straps = saggy bustline. Donβt skip this tiny but powerful tweak.
How to Dress a Large Bust
Having a full bust can feel like a blessing and a styling challenge. Our advice? Donβt fight itβframe it.
Best Necklines:
V-neck, Scoop, Sweetheart, Square, Deep lapels or soft tailoring
For a deeper dive into why these styles work, read our post: What Necklines Work for Larger Busts.
What to Wear:
Fitted but not tight tops that create shape, wrap dresses or pieces with adjustable waists, structured jackets with shape through the waist, simple tops and statement bottoms for balanced proportions
Avoid:
Crewnecks and high round necks, heavy embellishments on the chest, drop-shoulder seams

What if You Have a Large Bust and a Full Midsection?
How to Dress a Large Bust and a Tummy
Not all larger busts come with the same proportionsβand having a fuller tummy (or being plus-size in general) can make styling feel even more complicated. But with the right pieces, you can feel balanced, comfortable, and confident.
What to Wear
Tops that skim, not clingβlook for soft fabrics that drape rather than stretch
Empire waistlines that fall just under the bust help define shape and create flow
Structured wrap tops or mock-wrap styles are excellent for bust and midsection
Vertical prints, open layers (like a long cardigan or duster), and monochrome palettes elongate the torso
Dresses with ruching or a twist at the waist can define curves while creating movement
What to Avoid
Shapeless oversized tops that hide your body and make you look bigger than you are
High necks that shorten your upper bodyBulky fabrics or layered tops that add unnecessary volume around your midsection
Dressing an Hourglass Body with a Larger Bust
If you're curvy with a defined waistβeven if you're plus-sizeβyou have something many people try to create with clothes: natural balance. The trick is not hiding it, but highlighting it intentionally.
What to Wear
Wrap dresses and tops are your best friends
High-waisted trousers or skirts with tucked-in tops to highlight your waist
Belted coats or dresses to draw attention to your shape
Fitted knits that hug but donβt over-stretch
Proportional Tips
Always show where your waist isβeven with layers
Donβt be afraid of form-fitting, especially when the fabric has structure
Peplum cuts can work well if they sit at your natural waist
How to Dress a Small Bust
Smaller busts often come with more flexibilityβbut also more confusion. Many of our clients say: βI have all the options but nothing ever looks quite right.β Sound familiar?
Best Necklines:
Boat neck, High necks, Crew neck, Soft scoop or gentle v, Halter neck, Roll neck
What to Wear:
Textured fabrics, gathers, or ruffles near the bust, blouses with pockets or pleats on the bust, padded or shaping bras for more definition, horizontal stripes or prints to add volume
Avoid:
Deep plunges and sweetheart necklines (unless you're after a more minimal bust appearance), baggy or overly tight tops
Want a more defined silhouette? A softly structured top with print or texture works wonders. Need help shopping for your shape? Get styling guidance here.
How to Dress a Medium Bust
Right in the middle? Lucky you! You get the best of both worlds. But with that comes choicesβso letβs keep it simple and impactful.
Best Necklines
V-neck, Scoop, Sweetheart, Boat neck, Square or halter necklines
What to Wear
Tops that gently follow your shapeβnot oversized, not clingy, monochromatic outfits to streamline your upper half, good-quality, well-fitted bras to maintain lift and shape
Avoid
Chunky jewellery that sits right on the bust, crewnecks that can broaden the chest visually.
Need help understanding what fits you and why? Book a wardrobe review session or check out our style foundation services.
Quick Tips for Every Bust Size
Sometimes itβs the smallest changes that make the biggest impact:
Get a professional bra fitting
Re-tighten straps every few wears
Avoid over-detailing near the bust
Know your best neckline
Focus on proportion, not perfection
βItβs not about hiding or flauntingβitβs about understanding your shape so you can enjoy dressing it.β
Frequently Asked Questions
What neckline is best for a large bust?
V-neck, scoop neck, sweetheart, and wrap styles tend to flatter most fuller busts.
Can small busts wear high necklines?
Absolutely! Boat necks, halters, and high crew necks can all look gorgeousβespecially with added texture or print.
Should medium busts avoid embellishments?
Moderation is key. Light detail is fine, but oversized ruffles or heavy chest prints can visually exaggerate your bust.

My Interview on Ignites Europe: How Gen Z Is Redefining Corporate Style
As Gen Z enters the workforce in full force, corporate dress codes are being rewritten. In this blog, I share my insights from a recent Ignites Europe article on how workwear is evolvingβand what it means for professionals navigating todayβs blurred lines between casual and formal.
As featured in "Gen Z shakes up corporate dress codes" by Vibeka Mair, IGNITES EUROPE, 1 April 2025
Office style is shiftingβand fast. With more employees heading back to the office after years of hybrid work, companies are facing a new challenge: what is appropriate to wear to work these days? According to a recent article by Vibeka Mair for Ignites Europe, the answer is being heavily influenced by a new generationβGen Z.
This younger workforce is not only stepping into office life for the first time, but also rewriting the rules around dress codes with their values of authenticity, comfort, and individuality. I had the pleasure of sharing my perspective in the piece, particularly from my experience working with professionals in finance and law. Here are the key excerpts from the article where I was quoted:
βGen Z is bringing a more relaxed and individualistic approach to workwear. They prioritise authenticity, comfort and self-expression over strict adherence to corporate norms.
This generation is more likely to challenge traditional expectations β wearing trainers, choosing statement pieces and incorporating trends into their office attire.β
Gen Z isnβt the only generation feeling the effects of changing norms. After years of dressing down for remote work, many professionals now find themselves navigating a style grey zoneβneither formal nor entirely casual.
βHybrid working blurred the lines between office and home attire, and as a result traditional corporate dress codes have relaxed.
In industries like finance, where client-facing roles are common, dressing appropriately can enhance how seriously you are taken.β
While finance and legal environments remain among the more traditionally dressed sectors, the shift toward smart-casual has become more pronounced.
βThereβs been a shift towards more smart-casual dressing, [such as] structured blazers with knitwear instead of full suits, smart trousers paired with more relaxed footwear, and an overall preference for comfort.β
And this change brings its own challengesβespecially for those trying to find the right balance in their evolving work wardrobe.
βSome feel pressure to dress up after years of dressing more casually, while others are unsure where the new boundaries lie.
The challenge is striking the right balance: looking polished without feeling overdressed in an environment that is no longer strictly formal.β
As a style coach, I believe this transition offers a valuable opportunityβnot just for Gen Z, but for professionals at every stage of their careerβto rethink how they show up at work. The key is to remain polished and intentional while letting personality shine through.

HOW TO PUT AN OUTFIT TOGETHER (Without the Stress)
Learn how to put an outfit together with confidence. Personal stylist tips, outfit formulas, seasonal advice, and a free planner to simplify your style.
As a personal stylist, Iβve met so many women who feel overwhelmed by their wardrobes. Theyβve got plenty of clothes but somehow still feel like they have βnothing to wear.β Sound familiar?
Hereβs the thing: putting an outfit together isnβt about having more clothes. Itβs about making intentional choicesβknowing what suits you, what makes you feel confident, and how to combine the pieces you already love. Once you understand a few key principles, it gets easier (and more fun!) to get dressed every day.
Let me walk you through the exact steps I use with my clients to help them put together outfits they actually want to wear.
Step 1: Start With Your Day
Before you dive into colours, shapes, or accessories, pause and ask yourself: What does today look like?
Are you working from home? Going to meetings? School run and then brunch? Your outfit should reflect what your day demandsβand how you want to feel while living it.
I always say: if itβs not comfortable, you wonβt wear it. If it doesnβt feel like you, you wonβt feel confident in it. So begin with the practical stuffβweather, walking, meetings, dress codesβand build from there.
Stylist tip: Think of your outfit like a building. Your lifestyle is the foundation. Start there and everything else becomes easier.
Step 2: Know Your Style Personality
This is the part most people skipβbut itβs key.
Your style personality is how your wardrobe reflects you. Itβs that invisible thread that connects all the pieces you love. Are you more classic or creative? Minimalist or romantic? Edgy or effortless?
When I work with personal styling clients, we often discover theyβve been dressing for someone elseβs lifestyleβor someone elseβs idea of what they βshouldβ wear. Thatβs when outfits start to feel off.
Take a look at your Pinterest board, the clothes you always reach for, or the pieces that bring compliments. These are clues. Your style personality isnβt something you forceβitβs something you uncover.
Stylist tip: Pick three words youβd love people to use when describing your look. Thatβs your starting point.
Step 3: Dress for Your Shape (Not the Trend)
Trends come and go. But understanding your body shape? Thatβs timeless.
Whether you're curvy, petite, tall, straight, or somewhere in-between, there are styles that will always feel better on you. When you learn to balance proportions and highlight your favourite features, you stop chasing every trendβand start building a wardrobe that works.
The goal is never to hide your body, but to dress it in a way that feels flattering and intentional. Itβs about choosing cuts, lengths, and silhouettes that make you feel good, not self-conscious.
Stylist tip: Instead of asking βDoes this fit?β try asking βDoes this balance me out?β and βDo I feel great in this?β
Step 4: Use Colour to Your Advantage
Colour can make or break an outfit. The right shades will make your skin glow, your eyes pop, and your outfit feel instantly more polishedβeven if youβre just wearing jeans and a tee.
That doesnβt mean you have to wear brights if youβre a neutral lover. Itβs about knowing your undertone and choosing colours that work with it.
If you've never had a colour analysis, itβs one of the most powerful tools in styling. Clients often tell me itβs the moment things "clicked"βshopping gets easier, mixing and matching becomes effortless, and outfits just start to work.
Stylist tip: If you're ever unsure, wear your best neutral close to your faceβlike ivory, charcoal, navy, or camelβand add colour through accessories.
Step 5: Build Around One Hero Piece
Hereβs where the fun begins.
Every great outfit starts with one key piece. It could be a patterned skirt, a well-cut blazer, a silk blouse you love, or even a pair of boots youβre excited to wear. Start with that item, and build the rest of your outfit around it.
Ask yourself:
What complements this piece without competing?
Do I need to balance the volume (e.g. slim trousers with an oversized knit)?
Should I keep the rest of the outfit simple to let this item shine?
This keeps things focusedβand helps you avoid the trap of trying on everything you own.
Stylist tip: If you feel stuck, browse your camera roll. Look at outfits youβve worn and loved, then rebuild them with a fresh twist.
Step 6: Add Layers & Accessories with Intention
Accessories are the secret sauce. They can elevate a basic outfit, tie everything together, or shift your look from casual to polished in seconds. But the key word here is intention.
Choose one or two statement elementsβlike a bold necklace, a great handbag, or a printed scarfβand let them do the talking. Donβt feel the need to overdo it. Sometimes, a single belt or pair of earrings can change the feel of your entire outfit.
And then thereβs layering. Cardigans, jackets, blazersβthey add depth and interest. Plus, theyβre practical when the weather canβt decide what itβs doing.
Stylist tip: A third layer (even a light one) almost always makes an outfit feel more βfinished.β
If this is the part that overwhelms youβshopping for those key pieces or knowing what to invest inβI can help. My personal shopper sessions are all about finding pieces that work for you, your shape, your lifestyle, and your budget. Whether itβs building a capsule wardrobe or choosing outfits for a special occasion, Iβll take the stress out of the process.
Step 7: Check for Balance β Style, Comfort, Proportion
Youβve pulled your outfit togetherβgreat. But before you walk out the door, do a quick βbalance check.β
Look in the mirror and ask:
Is the outfit balanced in terms of shape? (e.g. if the top is voluminous, is the bottom more fittedβor vice versa?)
Do the colours and textures complement each other?
Do I feel comfortableβnot just physically, but emotionally? Would I feel confident walking into a room like this?
This step is less about following rules and more about noticing how everything works together. Sometimes, itβs one small tweakβa tucked-in top, a cuffed sleeve, a swap of shoesβthat makes the outfit really sing.
Stylist tip: Snap a mirror selfie! Itβs often easier to spot whatβs working (and whatβs not) when you step back and look at a photo.
Common Outfit Mistakes to Avoid
Even the most stylish people make these sometimes:
Wearing too many statement pieces at once β Itβs easy to go overboard. Let one item shine.
Forgetting about fit β A blazer that almost fits will always feel βoff.β Tailoring makes a big difference.
Choosing function over style or vice versa β A great outfit does both.
Ignoring proportions β Balance bulky items with something sleeker.
Wearing clothes that donβt feel like you β You should feel comfortable and confident, not like you're in costume.
Extra Tips for Everyday Style Success
Plan the night before. Mornings are easier when you already know what youβre wearing.
Keep a βyesβ section in your wardrobe. These are pieces you always feel good in.
Have a few outfit formulas. E.g. blazer + tee + jeans, or knit + midi skirt + boots.
Check the weather app. Honestly, it saves so many regrets.

How to Adapt Your Outfit Formulas for the Seasons
Outfit formulas are flexibleβbut the key to making them work year-round is knowing how to seasonalise them. Hereβs how to tweak the same base outfit to suit different weather, fabrics, and moods throughout the year.
Letβs take one core formula
Blazer + Top + Trousers + Shoes
Spring outfit idea
πΈ Spring Outfit
Choose a lightweight blazer in soft tones (think sage, blush, or ivory)
Add a cotton or linen top
Go for cropped trousers or ankle-grazers
Pair with loafers or white trainers
Add a silk scarf or a structured tote
Summar Capsule Wardrobe
βοΈ Summer Outfit
Swap the blazer for a linen waistcoat or go sleeveless
Choose a breathable tank or cami
Opt for light, wide-leg trousers or culottes
Finish with sandals or espadrilles
Add bold jewellery or a straw bag for texture
π Autumn Outfit
Go with a structured blazer in a rich, earthy tone (rust, olive, or navy)
Choose a long-sleeved jersey or knit top
Switch to heavier trousersβcords or wool blends
Add ankle boots
Layer in a fine knit or lightweight turtleneck underneath for added warmth
βοΈ Winter Outfit
Use a wool or tweed blazer, layered over a thermal or cashmere knit
Add thermal tights or layer under trousers with leggings
Pair with chunky boots or lined ankle boots
Wrap up with a coat, scarf, and glovesβbut keep the base outfit stylish
Stylist tip: Keep your core formula the sameβjust update the fabrics, colours, and accessories to reflect the season.
Your Turn β Plan a Week of Outfits
If youβve made it this far, challenge yourself: plan five outfits for the week ahead using what youβve just learned.
Start with:
One hero piece you havenβt worn in a while
A colour combo you havenβt tried before
An accessory youβve forgotten you own
You donβt need a whole new wardrobe. You just need a fresh approach.
Confidence Over Perfection
Style isnβt about getting it perfectβitβs about feeling like yourself. Trust your instincts, play a little, and donβt be afraid to try something new.
And if you ever need a bit of helpβfrom discovering your best colours to redefining your whole wardrobeβIβm here. You can explore my personal styling, colour analysis, or personal shopping services, or simply drop me a message to say hello.

SEASONAL LIPSTICKS - HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT COLOUR LIPSTICK FOR YOUR SKIN TONE
If youβre looking to discover the best lipstick shades for your skin tone then youβre in luck. I found some of my top picks at my recent event with Charlotte Tilbury to celebrate the launch of their eyeshadow palettes based on colour theory at their Covent Garden store in April 2025.
I was honoured to have been asked to host a special event in April 2025 in collaboration with the iconic Charlotte Tilbury make-up brand.
In this event, we explored the power of colour using Charlotte Tilburyβs best-selling and newly launched products, including stunning eyeshadow palettes based on colour theory!
This was a dream come true. Iβve been wanting to collaborate with a beauty brand for so long, and I couldnβt be happier that itβs with one of the best in the industry!
When I help my clients with a colour analysis, we go through the βseasonsβ to discover which works best for their colouring β these are easy to understand and discover, and once we have found out their season, we can then find out the colours that work perfectly for them. This isnβt just with clothing, however, which is transformative enough, but it also is with make-up and particularly with lipstick!
With this in mind, and with such an incredible selection of lipsticks to choose from by Charlotte Tilbury, I have created a guide below to help you discover the best shades, based on your season.
If you havenβt discovered your season yet, you can book your very own colour analysis session with me that I can hold face to face or online.
Lipsticks for Summers:
For my summer clients, you usually have cool undertones with low contrast between hair and skin. Light and soft or muted colours are great for you!
For them, I like to use the Red Carpet Pink hue of the Hollywood Beauty Icon Lipstick as a light option. For a soft option, you can choose the 90βs pink shade of the same lipstick style, which is a satin shine finish with a conditioning & moisturising feel. If you prefer a cool option, try the shade Rose to Fame - a perfect mauve rose for Summers.
Best Lipstick Colours for Springs:
Springs tend to have clear colourings, with warm, golden undertones. When it comes to make up, the best colours for you are light and bright.
For my Spring clients, I like to use the Love Bite shade for a brighter option and the for a warmer option I recommend the Coral Kiss shade. If youβre looking for a lighter lipstick as a Spring, try the Candy Chic shade.
Top Lipstick Colours for Winters:
Winters have cool undertones and tend to work best with deep colours, their skin, hair and eyes have quite a high contrast between them, the make up I often recommend for winters is deeper in hue.
For a bold lipstick option, I highly recommend trying out the Red Carpet shade of Charlotte Tilburyβs Matte Revolution, while for a more cool option, I love the shade The Queen, while the shade Night Crimson is an excellent choice for a deeper, bolder shade.
Lipstick Colours for Autumns:
Finally, my Autumns, which are warm with golden undertones, and have usually a deep overall colouring and low contrast between skin, hair and eyes. Soft, deeper and warmer hues work beautifully on them.
Some of my top picks from the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick collection include So Red for a deep shade, whereas Pillow Talk is a soft, gentle shade for their skintone. For a warmer option, try out Stoned Rose - it will look fabulous on your skin!
As you can see, the right colour make-up can work perfectly to uplift and brighten your face, and when you do discover those colours that work for you, it not only boosts your confidence but also saves you money. If youβve ever put on make-up or clothes and just feel like theyβre not quite right but canβt put your finger on it, it may be because the colour isnβt the best fit for your skin tone and colouring. Understanding these little tricks can help, which is why I love doing what I do so much.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: HOW TO TRANSITION YOUR WARDROBE FROM WINTER TO SPRING WITH EASE
As the weather warms and the days lengthen, itβs time to refresh your wardrobe and make the transition from winter to spring. Layering is key during this seasonal change, and the right clothing can help you stay stylish, comfortable, and prepared for unpredictable weather.
As the weather warms and the days lengthen, itβs time to refresh your wardrobe and make the transition from winter to spring. Layering is key during this seasonal change, and the right clothing can help you stay stylish, comfortable, and prepared for unpredictable weather.
Start with Lighter Layers
While winter clothes often focus on heavy materials like wool and fleece, spring calls for lighter fabrics that still offer warmth and coverage.
Consider swapping out thick sweaters for lighter knit tops or long-sleeve blouses.
A classic trench coat is perfect for layering and can be worn over almost any outfit, from dresses to professional pantsuits.
Adding lightweight scarves or shawls can also provide extra warmth during the cooler mornings and evenings while still allowing you to maintain a fresh, springtime feel.
Incorporate Spring Colours into Your Wardrobe
Spring is the time to embrace soft, refreshing colours that symbolize renewal. Think pastels, light neutrals, and floral prints. Swap out your deep, moody winter hues for shades like lavender, pale blue, mint green, or soft pink.
If you prefer a more neutral palette, consider warm tones like light beige, camel, or light grey, which still give you versatility but with a fresh, spring-inspired twist. Adding a few colourful accessories, such as scarves, handbags, or shoes, can also instantly transform your look from wintery to spring-ready.
Embrace Transitional Fabrics
Spring often brings fluctuating temperatures, so itβs important to choose fabrics that are breathable yet still provide some warmth. Lightweight cotton, linen blends, and silk are excellent choices for layering. For your workwear, a lightweight blazer in a neutral colour can easily pair with both winter staples like wool trousers and lighter spring pieces like a cotton blouse.
Similarly, consider swapping out your thick winter boots for ankle boots or loafers, which will still provide coverage but feel more seasonally appropriate.
Revamp Your Footwear
As we step into spring, it's time to put away those heavy winter boots and make room for lighter, more breathable footwear.
Opt for chic loafers, flats, or ankle boots that can easily transition from office wear to casual outfits.
You can also incorporate a pair of classic sneakers for a more casual look that still feels polished.
If you love dresses, nowβs the time to break out strappy sandals or open-toed shoes, ensuring your footwear matches the weather and your overall spring vibe.
Layer Smartly with Lighter Outerwear
One of the easiest ways to transition from winter to spring is by layering with the right outerwear. A light jacket, like a denim or leather jacket, can work wonders in keeping you warm without overwhelming your outfit. A structured blazer can also elevate your look for the office and is versatile enough to pair with dresses, skirts, or trousers.
A lightweight cardigan or a stylish vest can be the perfect addition for those in-between days when the weatherβs unpredictable. By adding the right outerwear, you can stay stylish and comfortable no matter what spring weather comes your way.
Transitioning Your Wardrobe Is a Confidence Boost
As the seasons change, so too can your wardrobe. Transitioning from winter to spring gives you the opportunity to explore new textures, colours, and styles.
Together, we can develop outfits that will leave you feeling confident and ready for any occasionβno matter the weather.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: WHY COLOUR ANALYSIS MATTERS & HOW TO UNLOCK YOUR BEST COLOURS
Colour is more than just a visual experienceβit has the power to influence how we feel and how others perceive us.
When it comes to personal style, choosing the right colours can enhance your natural features and boost your confidence.
Whether youβre navigating the professional world, creating a capsule wardrobe, or refreshing your everyday look, understanding the significance of colour analysis can be a game-changer in how you approach your wardrobe.
What Is Colour Analysis?
Colour analysis is a method that identifies the colours that complement your skin tone, hair colour, and eye colour. By understanding which colours work best for you, you can make more intentional and confident wardrobe choices. There are different colour seasons (Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn) based on the undertones in your skin, and each season has a palette of colours that will make you look vibrant, healthy, and polished.
The Impact of Wearing Your Best Colours
When you wear colours that align with your natural undertones, your skin looks healthier, your eyes brighter, and your overall appearance more harmonious. On the flip side, wearing colours that donβt complement your natural colouring can leave you looking washed out or tired. For example, if you're a "Summer" season type with cool undertones, you might look best in soft pastels and cool blues, while a "Winter" type with deeper tones will shine in jewel tones like emerald or royal blue.
How to Discover Your Best Colours
A colour analysis session typically includes identifying your undertonesβwhether warm, cool, or neutralβand determining which colour palette suits you best. If you donβt have access to a professional colour consultant, start experimenting with clothing or accessories in various shades and observe how each makes you feel. Do you feel more radiant in a soft rose or a bright orange? The goal is to embrace colours that make you feel confident and comfortable.
Practical Ways to Integrate Your Best Colours into Your Wardrobe
Once youβve identified your optimal colour palette, you can begin to integrate those shades into your wardrobe. Start with neutral staplesβthink black, white, navy, and beigeβand then layer in your best accent colours through blouses, scarves, or accessories. colour can also be a great way to express your personalityβperhaps through bold shoes, a statement bag, or a colourful jacket.
If youβd like a more personalised experience, I offer colour analysis consultations that help you discover which colours will truly elevate your wardrobe. By understanding the science of colour, youβll feel empowered to make better choices and ultimately showcase your best self through your wardrobe.
Curious to discover the colours that truly bring you to life? Whether you're preparing for a wardrobe refresh or simply want to feel more confident in what you wear, colour analysis is a powerful first step. At One Of A Style, we offer personalised image consultancy sessions to help you unlock your best shades and understand how to wear them with ease.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: HOW TO CREATE A CAPSULE WARDROBE THAT WORKS FOR YOU
A capsule wardrobe is more than just a minimalist trendβitβs a powerful tool that helps you build a wardrobe full of pieces that work seamlessly together, making dressing easier and more enjoyable. If youβre looking to feel confident in your wardrobe every day, whether for professional settings or everyday life, starting with a capsule wardrobe is a great way to streamline your closet while showcasing your unique personal style.
Step 1: Identify Your Personal Style
Before you start building a capsule wardrobe, itβs crucial to understand your personal style. What are the clothes that make you feel confident, comfortable, and aligned with your personality?
You might gravitate toward classic pieces, or perhaps you love to incorporate bold colours or patterns into your outfits.
Take a moment to consider the message you want your wardrobe to communicate, whether itβs professional, creative, or a mix of both.
Step 2: Build a Foundation of Versatile Staples
The heart of any capsule wardrobe lies in versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched. Begin by investing in timeless, high-quality staples that work for both professional settings and everyday wear.
For example, a tailored blazer in a neutral colour, a pair of well-fitted trousers, a classic button-down shirt, and a simple dress are all pieces that should be in every capsule wardrobe.
These foundational items serve as the backbone of your collection and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
Step 3: Choose a Coordinated Colour Palette
Once youβve identified the essential pieces, the next step is to choose a colour palette that suits you. Start with neutralsβblack, white, grey, and navyβbecause theyβre timeless and easy to mix and match. Then, add in a few accent colours that align with your personality, such as a rich burgundy, emerald green, or soft blush. By limiting your colour palette, you make it easier to create outfits that flow naturally, no matter the combination of pieces.
Step 4: Add Statement Pieces to Reflect Your Personality
While a capsule wardrobe is based on simplicity, itβs important to inject pieces that reflect your personality. Maybe itβs a bold bag, a statement necklace, or a pair of shoes with a unique design. These statement items allow you to showcase your individuality while still maintaining a cohesive, professional look.
Keep in mind that even a simple change of accessories can completely transform the vibe of an outfit.
Step 5: Focus on Quality Over Quantity
When building your capsule wardrobe, remember that itβs not about having more clothesβitβs about having fewer but better pieces. Invest in high-quality fabrics that will stand the test of time, whether itβs a well-tailored coat made from wool or a pair of leather boots that can be worn year-round. Quality pieces will not only last longer but will also make you feel more confident in your clothing, knowing that every item is well made and versatile.
Step 6: Maintain and Rotate Your Capsule Wardrobe
One of the best things about a capsule wardrobe is that itβs easy to maintain. At the start of each season, assess your collection and decide if anything needs to be refreshed. Perhaps you need to replace a pair of shoes or add a new blouse. Additionally, rotating your wardrobe pieces according to the season can help keep things fresh and exciting. For example, in the winter months, you may rely more heavily on sweaters and coats, while in the summer, you might wear more dresses and lightweight fabrics.
The Power of a Well-Curated Capsule Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe doesnβt just simplify your closetβit simplifies your life. By focusing on a collection of versatile, quality pieces that reflect your personal style, youβll always have something to wear that makes you feel confident, professional, and ready for anything. Whether you're navigating a new career milestone, managing a busy family life, or simply looking to streamline your wardrobe, a capsule wardrobe gives you the freedom to focus on what truly matters, without the stress of a cluttered closet.
If you're feeling unsure about where to begin or need personalised guidance to curate your perfect capsule wardrobe, remember that Iβm here to help.

PERSONAL STYLIST TIPS: HOW TO REFRESH YOUR WARDROBE FOR THE NEW YEAR
As the calendar flips to a new year, it brings the perfect opportunity for self-renewal. This year, why not start with your wardrobe? A thoughtfully curated closet can do wonders for your confidence, especially when it aligns with your personal and professional goals. Hereβs how you can refresh your wardrobe and boost your confidence, one stylish step at a time.
Reflect on Your Current Wardrobe
Begin by assessing what you currently own. Which pieces make you feel powerful and poised? Which ones have seen better days? Take note of the outfits that boost your mood and those that donβt quite hit the mark. This reflective practice helps you understand your style preferences and the gaps in your wardrobe.
Align Your Wardrobe with Your Goals
Whether youβre aiming for a promotion, starting a new business, or simply seeking a fresh outlook, your wardrobe should reflect these ambitions. Invest in pieces that resonate with where you want to be. For instance, a tailored blazer can symbolise professionalism, while a statement piece of jewellery can add a touch of your unique personality.
The Power of Signature Pieces
Identify a few signature pieces that define your style. These could be anything from a sleek pair of heels to a bold handbag or even a classic trench coat. Signature items become your go-to, making it easier to dress confidently, no matter the occasion.
Embrace Seasonal Transitions
Winter doesnβt have to be all about dark and heavy fabrics. Introduce lighter, brighter pieces that hint at the approaching spring. Layering is keyβthink soft cashmere sweaters under structured coats or vibrant scarves that add a pop of colour. These transitional pieces keep your wardrobe fresh and adaptable.
Treat Yourself to Something New
A new year deserves a new addition to your wardrobe. Consider investing in an item that excites youβsomething that pushes you slightly out of your comfort zone. Whether itβs a bold colour youβve never tried or a silhouette thatβs different from your usual, this piece can symbolise your readiness to embrace the new year with confidence.
Organise for Success
Lastly, take time to organise your wardrobe. A well-organised closet not only saves time but also helps you see the full potential of your outfits. Categorise your clothing by type, colour, or even by occasion. This organisation will make getting dressed in the morning a joyful and stress-free experience.

PERSONAL SHOPPING TIPS β PERFECT FESTIVE (AND STYLISH) GIFTING IDEAS FOR CHRISTMAS
Are you looking for the perfect gift to give for someone you love? Whether itβs for the festive season, a birthday, or simply to show them you care, getting the gifts right can feel daunting, particularly if they are fashionable! Hereβs my guide to finding the perfect stylish gifts, from jewellery to clothing, and anything in between.
Whether you're shopping for loved ones or indulging yourself this season, finding the perfect gift can be a delightful experience. Thoughtful presents not only show you care but also leave a lasting impression. If youβre seeking inspiration, here are some elegant and versatile gift ideas that blend style, practicality, and a touch of luxury.
A Beautiful Piece of Jewellery
Jewellery is a timeless gift, perfect for both men and women. Whether itβs a delicate necklace, unique earrings, or a statement ring, a well-chosen piece can hold sentimental value and elevate any outfit.
Jewellery doesnβt have to be overtly expensive (unless you want to invest in a piece that is so), it can be a find from a vintage store with countless stories to go with it, or an independent jeweller that is as unique as the person you are gifting the piece to. For example, these beautiful gold Fiorina earrings are under Β£70 and are 18k gold plated.
How to Choose the Perfect Jewellery:
Observe their preferences: Do they lean towards gold, silver, rose gold, or mixed metals?
Consider their style: Are they drawn to minimalist designs or statement pieces like chandelier earrings or chunky bracelets?
When in doubt: Opt for versatile, classic pieces that can be dressed up or down.
Luxury Loungewear
Stylish loungewear makes a thoughtful and indulgent gift. Look for high-quality sets made from natural fabrics like silk, cashmere, or bamboo for added comfort and elegance.
While loungewear is often considered to only be used in the home, when styled correctly, it can also be worn for the office, brunch, or even a date, so youβll know when youβve invested in a beautiful loungewear set, that it will be used for more than lounging around! For example, these stunning high waist silk palazzo pants could be worn comfortably for Christmas morning, or to a business meeting!
What to look for when buying loungewear for a gift
The fabric is important! Silky fabrics can ensure the pieces can be worn throughout the winter and summer months. For some, the silkier fabrics can feel more appropriate for nighttime, so take a look at the wardrobe of the person you are gifting, or if they have worn these fabrics outside of the house, to be sure they will wear this piece in other outfits.
Consider the patterns. If the person you are buying this gift for is someone who loves colours & patterns, or prefers more neutral tones, take this into consideration for the piece you gift them.
Keep the receipt. While we work our hardest to make sure we have the sizing and styling right, thereβs always the chance it may not be the right fit. Keep a gift receipt in the packaging for ease for the receiver.
A Cashmere or Wool Coat
A well-tailored winter coat is a timeless wardrobe staple that exudes sophistication. Classic styles like trench coats, wrap coats, or peacoats are versatile and elegant.
While it is a piece that will be worn for a few months, consider a piece that is versatile for the office and for more relaxed outings, so they can use it more often! If they head to the office every day, you can be sure the coat will be worn very often, so make sure the coat is of a sturdy fabric, and consider a darker tone if they commute, as a white or light colour can get dirty quickly.
Make It Special:
Choose a neutral or jewel tone for maximum versatility.
Pair the gift with a voucher for a personal styling session, helping them learn how to style their new coat for every occasion.
Vintage or Pre-Loved Designer Accessories
Sustainability meets style with a pre-loved designer piece. From a vintage handbag to a silk scarf, gifting a unique fashion item is a sure way to impress.
How to Add a Personal Touch:
Include the story behind the piece, such as the era it comes from or the brandβs history.
Look for accessories like Hermes scarves, designer belts, or classic handbags in excellent condition.
Accessories: Bags, Scarves, and Boots
Accessories are a fantastic way to add flair to anyoneβs wardrobe. Bags, scarves, and knee-length boots are versatile options that suit almost every personal style.
Bags: A chic crossbody or tote is both practical and stylish.
Scarves: Opt for cashmere, wool or silk designs with timeless patterns.
Boots: Knee-length boots in leather or suede make a statement and pair beautifully with everything from dresses to jeans.
A Shared Styling Experience
Why not gift an experience instead of an item? A group colour analysis or styling session is a fun, unique way to bond with loved ones while learning valuable tips to enhance personal style.
Group Bookings: Host a session for up to four people and receive a 10% discount on the total price.
Gift Vouchers: Treat someone special to a personalised styling experience theyβll cherish.
Stylish Stocking Stuffer Ideas
If you prefer to give smaller gifts, or are looking for those βstocking stuffersβ then you can look for stylish options. Here are a few of my favourites:
Make bathtime a luxury. Thereβs nothing quite like diving deep into a luxurious bath or shower and feeling pampered. Several stores, such as Anthropologie, Lush, and other high street stores like Boots/Superdrug have plenty of pre-wrapped Christmas gifts for you to quickly pick up β no wrapping required! Make sure you know if they are a shower or bath person (or both!) before you get them these items.
Try out new scents. If you want to give a gift that doesnβt encompass too much investment straight away, then a sampler set of perfumes can be a great option. This gives the receiver the chance to try out a selection of new scents, or to take with them on their travels and smell unique every day! For example this Twelve Days of Cologne by Jo Malone, Kayali Discovery Layering Set (available on Sephora UK), or for the friend that loves darker scents inspired by βwitchyβ things, try out the Cursed sampler set.
Homewares go a long way. You canβt go wrong with a classic β the candle, tea cups, or perhaps a very special set of wine glasses.
Make It Memorable
Whatever you choose, the best gifts are those selected with care and thought. Whether itβs a timeless jewellery piece, a luxurious coat, or an unforgettable experience, these ideas are sure to bring joy and style this season.
PERSONAL SHOPPING TIPS: NECKLINES FOR SMALLER BUSTS - FINDING THE PERFECT FIT
. If you have a smaller bust, choosing the right neckline can make a huge difference in how you feel and look in your clothes. Itβs all about creating balance, enhancing your natural shape, and boosting your confidence. Today, Iβm excited to share some of my favourite neckline styles for women with smaller busts, and how you can incorporate them into your wardrobe for both work and leisure.
As a personal stylist, one of the most common questions I receive is about finding the right clothes to suit different body types, and necklines are a major part of that.
Understanding Your Body Shape
Before we dive into specific necklines, itβs important to recognise that there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution in fashion. Your body is unique, and the key to dressing confidently is knowing what works for you. If you have a smaller bust, itβs not about hiding or compensating but enhancing and drawing attention to the parts of your body that make you feel fantastic.
Necklines are a simple yet effective way to do this. By understanding which styles work best for you, you can curate a wardrobe that flatters your body shape and makes you feel effortlessly chic.
The Best Necklines for a Smaller Bust
1. Turtle-Neck
Turtlenecks are a great wardrobe staple. The high neckline creates the illusion of more volume around the chest area, enhancing your proportions in a flattering way. Turtlenecks also draw attention to the neck and shoulders, offering a sleek, streamlined silhouette that complements smaller busts. Pairing them with layered necklaces or a statement coat can further elevate the look, adding both depth and sophistication to your outfit.
2. Crew Neck
Many people assume that a crew neck wouldnβt work for a smaller bust, but that couldnβt be further from the truth. A higher neckline like a crew neck can add fullness to your bust area, creating a balanced and proportional look. Pair this with tailored trousers or a sleek pencil skirt for the office, and you have a clean, professional look thatβs both comfortable and stylish.
3. Scoop Neck
The scoop neck is a great option for a more feminine and relaxed look. It creates the illusion of a fuller bust and adds softness to your overall silhouette. For an office-ready style, try pairing a scoop-neck blouse with a structured blazer β this contrast can elevate your look while still keeping it work-appropriate.
4. Square Neck
A square neckline is a great way to add angles to your look and give the illusion of a broader chest and shoulders. This neckline is bold, elegant, and ideal for both formal and casual settings. Itβs particularly well-suited for women with a smaller bust, as the straight lines add structure and interest to your upper body. I recommend trying a square-neck dress or top for your next work meeting; itβs a flattering and unique choice thatβll set you apart.
5. Off-the-Shoulder
If youβre looking to add a bit of flair to your style, an off-the-shoulder neckline is a fantastic option. It shifts the focus to your collarbones and shoulders, subtly balancing the proportions of your body. This neckline works beautifully in both casual and more formal pieces, making it perfect for a Friday office look or a weekend event.
Tips for Styling These Necklines
When it comes to styling necklines for a smaller bust, layering and accessorising can help complete your look. For example, a well-fitted blazer over a turtle-neck can add structure to your outfit, while a delicate necklace with a scoop neck can draw attention to the neckline without overwhelming it. Donβt be afraid to experiment with different textures and fabrics, too. Silk, cotton, and linen all behave differently, and finding the right material for your neckline can enhance your overall look.
Ready to Discover Your Perfect Style?
Finding the perfect neckline is just one part of the journey to curating a wardrobe that works for you. Whether youβre getting ready for an important meeting or a relaxed weekend, having the right clothes in your wardrobe can make all the difference. If youβre feeling unsure about where to start, why not treat yourself to a personal shopping experience? My team and I are here to help you discover the styles and shapes that make you look and feel your best.
PERSONAL STYLING ADVICE: EMBRACING YOUR PEAR SHAPE: WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE OFFICE (WITHOUT A BODYCON)
If youβve got a fabulous pear-shaped figure, you might think the office style game is all about bodyconβbut guess what? There's a whole world of chic and flattering outfits waiting for you!
In this blog, I share my favourite tips on how to highlight your curves, play with proportions, and build a balanced, polished look without feeling confined to just one style.
When it comes to dressing for your pear-shaped figure, you might have heard that bodycon dresses are your best friend. While they can certainly highlight your curves, thereβs so much more to explore in the world of professional style. As a specialist personal stylist, I believe every woman should feel confident and empowered in her workwearβwithout feeling limited to a single style.
If you have a pear-shaped body, your hips are typically wider than your bust, and your waist is more defined. This beautiful silhouette offers plenty of opportunities to play with proportions and create a balanced, polished look for the office. Letβs dive into some key tips for dressing your pear shape professionally, without relying on the ubiquitous bodycon.
Creating Balance in Your Silhouette
Dressing for a pear shape is all about balance. The aim is to draw attention to your upper half while elegantly complementing your hips and lower body. This doesnβt mean hiding your curves; itβs about enhancing your natural shape with thoughtful styling and smart choices.
Tops that Work for Pear Shapes
1. Structured Blazers
A well-fitted, structured blazer is your best friend. It draws attention upwards and defines your shoulders, giving you a more proportional look. Opt for blazers with subtle shoulder padding or detailing to broaden your upper half slightly. Bright or bold colours can also help shift the focus towards your upper body, while darker colours on the bottom half maintain balance. Top tip: cropped blazers/bikers are recommended as theyβll focus the attention on the waistline, away from the hips.
2. Statement Blouses
Blouses with interesting necklines or detailing at the shoulders are a fantastic choice for pear-shaped women. Think ruffles, puffed sleeves, or embellishments that draw the eye upwards. Patterns and bold colours also work well here, adding volume and interest to your upper half while keeping your overall look balanced.
3. Turtle-Neck and Boat Neck Tops
Both turtle-neck and boat neck tops helps draw the attention to your neck and broaden your shoulders, creating balance with your hips. These necklines are flattering, elegant, and work perfectly under a blazer or on their own. Theyβre easy to style and can effortlessly transition from a busy day at the office to after-work drinks.
Choosing the Right Bottoms
1. A-Line Skirts
An A-line skirt is ideal for pear shapes because it skims over your hips, creating a smooth and flattering silhouette. Itβs a professional yet feminine option for the office, and it pairs beautifully with structured tops or blouses. Opt for skirts that fall just below the knee for a sophisticated, office-appropriate look.
2. Wide-Leg Trousers
Wide-leg trousers are another excellent choice for balancing your proportions. They provide structure while skimming over your hips and thighs, creating a streamlined silhouette. Pair them with a tucked-in blouse or a fitted top to ensure your waist is still defined, maintaining that beautiful hourglass shape.
3. Flared Trousers
If youβre not a wide-leg kind of person perhaps you can try flared trousers still with a mid or high waist to elongate your legs while defining your waist and creating a balance with your hips and bust. Choose darker or plain colours to streamline your lower half, and pair them with lighter, brighter or bold printed tops for balance.
Donβt forget the outerwear!
For the cooler months, a coat with a belt to enhance your waist is the perfect option for your outerwear. There are some excellent options available from the classic wool to a lighter-weight trench coat. Make sure the coat falls at your natural waist, and if there are buttons, single-breasted options are best.
Accessories for the Office
Accessories can also help you achieve balance in your outfit. Statement necklaces or earrings draw attention to your upper half, while a well-placed belt can further define your waist. A structured bag carried on your shoulder also helps add volume to your upper half, subtly shifting the focus away from your hips.
Letβs Embrace Your Shape Together
Dressing for your body shape isnβt about following rules; itβs about embracing what makes you unique. If youβre ready to explore new ways to dress your pear-shaped figure for the office, Iβm here to help. My personal style masterclasses are designed to guide you in discovering the clothes and colours that work best for your body, making sure you feel confident and stylish in any professional setting.
HOW PERSONAL SHOPPERS SAVE YOU MONEY BY AVOIDING FASHION MISTAKES
In the world of fashion, trends come and go, but the pressure to look stylish while maintaining a functional wardrobe remains constant. With busy schedules and a multitude of shopping options, itβs easy to make impulsive purchases or fall for fleeting trends that donβt suit your style. Over time, these choices can accumulate into wasted money and an overflowing wardrobe of unworn clothes.
Personal shopperβa professional who helps you curate your wardrobe with care, precision, and expertise, saving you both time and money. Whether through in-person shopping or curated online shopping, help avoid costly fashion mistakes, ensuring that each purchase is a smart investment in your personal style.
The Hidden Cost of Fashion Mistakes
We've all been thereβstanding in front of the wardrobe full of clothes and feeling like we have nothing to wear. Often, this stems from buying items that don't align with our true style, don't fit properly, or don't work well with other pieces we already own. These missteps often result in wasted money and clothing items gathering dust, rather than serving their intended purpose.
Common fashion mistakes include:
Impulse Buys: Buying something on sale or because it looks good on the mannequin, but it doesnβt fit your personal style.
Following Trends Blindly: Trendy items that only last a season before becoming outdated.
Buying Poor Quality: Opting for cheaper, low-quality fabrics that wear out quickly, forcing you to replace them more frequently.
Size Misjudgments: Purchasing clothing that doesnβt fit well, leading to discomfort or costly alterations.
One-Time Pieces: Buying an outfit for a specific event that youβll never wear again.
Each of these mistakes represents money that could have been saved or spent more wisely on versatile, high-quality pieces that truly enhance your wardrobe. This is where personal shoppers can step in to provide tailored guidance that helps you avoid these pitfalls.
How Personal Shoppers Prevent Fashion Mistakes
Personal shoppers help clients avoid costly fashion errors by offering expert guidance, selecting flattering styles, and curating cohesive wardrobes.
1. Curating a Cohesive Wardrobe
One of the key services personal shoppers offer is creating a cohesive wardrobe that suits your lifestyle, body type, and personal preferences. Rather than buying standalone items that donβt integrate with what you already own, personal shoppers focus on building a versatile wardrobe where every piece works together. This helps you avoid the common mistake of having a closet full of random, mismatched items that never get worn.
A professional stylist will assess your existing wardrobe and identify gaps. From there, they can make strategic recommendations on what to add to your collection. This prevents you from overspending on unnecessary items and ensures you have a variety of outfits that suit different occasions and can be mixed and matched.
Interested in how this works? Explore our Personal Shopping service to see how our experts can help you build the perfect wardrobe. You can also choose to start with a full wardrobe edit through our Wardrobe Stylist service, which focuses on maximising your existing clothing collection before adding new pieces.
2. Avoiding Impulse Buys
Impulse buying is a costly habit. How many times have you bought something on sale, only to find that it doesn't fit well or doesn't suit your style? Personal shoppers are trained to avoid such temptations. Instead of focusing on short-term satisfaction, they guide you toward purchasing pieces that have long-term value.
Whether youβre shopping in-person with a stylist or using an online personal shopping service, your personal shopper helps keep your buying decisions grounded in your wardrobe goals and budget, preventing costly impulse purchases. By curating a selection of items in advance, your shopper ensures that each piece complements your personal style, saving you money in the long run by avoiding wasteful spending.
Learn more about how our Curated Online Shopping service can still provide the same level of guidance when it comes to Online Shopping.
3. Prioritising Quality Over Quantity
Another mistake many people make is opting for cheaper, trendy items that donβt stand the test of time. While it may seem like youβre saving money by buying inexpensive clothes, these items often wear out quickly or fall out of fashion, leading to more frequent replacements.
Personal shoppers encourage you to focus on quality over quantity. They steer you toward investment piecesβtimeless, high-quality items that are versatile and durable. These pieces might have a higher upfront cost, but they last longer, meaning you wonβt need to constantly refresh your wardrobe. Over time, investing in fewer, better pieces saves you money, as you wonβt be wasting it on clothing that deteriorates quickly.
By guiding you to prioritise quality and avoid fast fashion, personal shoppers save you from making frequent, low-quality purchases that drain your budget.
4. Personalised Fit and Sizing Guidance
One of the biggest frustrations when shopping, especially online, is getting the wrong fit. Poorly fitting clothes often end up at the back of the wardrobe, never to be worn, representing wasted money.
A personal shopper takes the guesswork out of sizing by understanding your body shape and selecting pieces that will fit and flatter you perfectly. When shopping in person, your stylist can make on-the-spot recommendations based on how items look and feel when you try them on. With online personal shopping services, youβll receive sizing tips and brand recommendations to ensure that youβre making the right choice, even when buying remotely.
To explore more about the differences between in-person and online shopping, read our guide on Personal Shopping vs. Online Personal Shopping: Which Service is Right for You?.
5. Maximising Your Existing Wardrobe
A personal shopper's role isn't just about helping you buy new clothesβthey also help you make the most of what you already own. By evaluating your current wardrobe, a professional stylist can show you how to wear your existing clothes in new ways, creating fresh looks without the need to spend money on new purchases.
This approach not only saves you money but also reduces the clutter in your wardrobe, ensuring that every piece you own serves a purpose. Personal shoppers help you focus on getting the most value from your clothing investments.
6. Smart Shopping for Special Occasions
Special occasions can lead to significant fashion mistakes. Whether itβs a wedding, a formal event, or a business function, itβs tempting to buy something expensive that you may only wear once. Personal shoppers prevent this by guiding you to buy versatile pieces that can be styled in different ways or worn across multiple occasions.
For instance, instead of buying an elaborate evening dress that only works for one event, a personal shopper might recommend a timeless, versatile option that can be dressed up or down, saving you from unnecessary future purchases.
7. Expert Trend Management
Following every fashion trend can be an expensive hobby, especially since trends can be fleeting. Personal shoppers help you navigate trends wisely. Theyβll recommend which trends are worth investing in based on your personal style, ensuring that you only buy pieces that will enhance your long-term wardrobe.
Rather than spending money on fast fashion or trendy pieces that will fall out of favour after a season, a personal shopper helps you build a wardrobe that evolves with time, with trend pieces that fit seamlessly into your style without dominating it.
8. Managing Your Fashion Budget
Personal shoppers work with your budget in mind. Whether you have a tight budget or room to splurge, they ensure that every piece of clothing you buy offers value and aligns with your financial goals. By focusing on investment pieces and avoiding impulse purchases, personal shoppers keep your wardrobe costs under control while still allowing you to look your best.
Why Working with a Personal Shopper is a Smart Investment
Many people assume that personal shopping services are a luxury reserved for the wealthy, but the truth is that hiring a personal shopper is a cost-effective solution for anyone looking to make better buying decisions. The guidance and expertise you receive ultimately save you money by preventing common fashion mistakes, ensuring that every item you buy adds true value to your wardrobe.
Instead of wasting money on poor-quality, ill-fitting, or impractical clothing, youβll have a wardrobe filled with versatile, high-quality pieces that reflect your personal style. A personal shopper isnβt just an expenseβitβs a smart investment that pays off through better buying decisions and a more cohesive, functional wardrobe.

Why Host a Styling Event?
Fashion styling events offer a unique opportunity to connect with your customers on a deeper level. Unlike traditional sales tactics, these events provide an interactive and engaging experience that can leave a lasting impression. Hereβs how a styling event can benefit your store:
Attract New Customers: A well-promoted event can draw in shoppers who may not have visited your store before. Itβs an excellent way to introduce your brand to a wider audience.
Enhance Customer Loyalty: By offering personalised styling advice and exclusive experiences, you can build stronger relationships with your existing customers, encouraging repeat visits.
Increase Sales: Styling events often lead to increased sales, as customers are more likely to purchase items that have been personally recommended by a stylist or that theyβve seen styled in new, exciting ways.
Showcase Your Expertise: Hosting a styling event positions your store as a fashion authority, setting you apart from competitors and building trust with your clientele.
Tips for Hosting a Successful Styling Event
Define Your Eventβs Purpose Start by deciding what you want to achieve with your styling event. Are you launching a new collection, celebrating a store anniversary, or simply looking to increase foot traffic? Defining your eventβs purpose will guide your planning and help you measure its success.
Choose the Right Format There are many ways to host a styling event, from intimate one-on-one consultations to larger group workshops. Some ideas include:
Style Talks: Invite a professional stylist to give a talk on current trends, how to dress for different body shapes, or how to create a capsule wardrobe.
Private Style Consultations: Offer your customers the chance to book a personalised session with a stylist, where they can receive tailored advice and try on outfits recommended just for them.
In-Store Fashion Shows: Showcase your latest collection with a live fashion show, allowing customers to see how your pieces look when styled and worn.
Colour Analysis Sessions: Educate your customers on how to choose the right colours for their skin tone, which can lead to more informed purchasing decisions.
Create a Memorable Experience The success of your event hinges on the experience you provide. Consider the atmosphereβthink about lighting, music, and refreshments. Offer perks like exclusive discounts for attendees, complimentary styling services, or even a small gift with purchase. Make the event feel special and attendees will be more likely to remember and return.
But also collaborating with a professional stylist or fashion expert can add credibility to your event and provide valuable insights for your attendees. At One Of A Style, weβve worked with renowned brands in different industries, from clothing to jewellery, like Pomellato, Fabiana Filippi, Marella, Giovanni Raspini and more, bringing expert-led styling sessions to life. PERSONAL SHOPPING VS. ONLINE PERSONAL SHOPPING: WHICH SERVICE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
In todayβs fast-paced world, looking and feeling your best is more important than ever. With the rise of personal shopping services, whether in-person or online, building a wardrobe that fits your personal style and needs has never been easier. But with so many options available, you might wonder which service best suits your lifestyle: traditional Personal Shopping or the more convenient Curated Online Shopping.
Both services offer unique advantages, catering to different needs, schedules, and preferences. In this comprehensive guide, weβll explore the key differences between these two options, examining the benefits and challenges of each so you can make an informed decision.
The Modern Dilemma: What Kind of Shopper Are You?
Before diving into the comparison, itβs important to understand your shopping habits. Each of us approaches fashion and wardrobe curation differently. Do you love the experience of being in a store, touching fabrics, and trying on outfits before making a decision? Or are you more of a digital native, who enjoys the ease of shopping from home with curated selections sent directly to your inbox?
Your preferences, lifestyle, and even geographic location can significantly influence which personal shopping service will serve you best.
What is Personal Shopping?
Personal shopping is a service where a professional stylist helps clients curate a wardrobe tailored to their style, body type, and budget. Once exclusive to celebrities, it is now accessible to a wider audience, streamlining personal style and wardrobe decisions.
Many people use personal shoppers to help them streamline their wardrobe, enhance their personal style, or prepare for special occasions.
A Personal Shopping experience typically involves meeting your stylist in person, where they guide you through a curated shopping session based on your preferences, body type, and budget.
The Process
The process begins with a consultation to discuss your personal style, wardrobe goals, and any upcoming events or needs. Your stylist will take this information and pre-select items for you to try on during a session at a high-end department store or boutique. The stylist may accompany you throughout the store, offering suggestions, pulling together complete outfits, and advising on how different pieces can work together.
The Benefits of Personal Shopping
Immediate, Real-Time Feedback
One of the most obvious advantages of Personal Shopping is the real-time feedback you receive. Your stylist is there with you, offering advice and adjusting their selections based on your preferences as you try on different items. This hands-on approach allows for immediate adjustments, ensuring the end result is tailored perfectly to your taste.
Physical Experience
Unlike shopping online, in-person shopping gives you the chance to see, touch, and feel the fabrics before you make a purchase. You can see how clothing fits and flows on your body in real-time, which helps prevent buying items that donβt quite work once you try them on at home. For many, the tactile experience of shopping is important, making this option appealing.
Expertise at Your Fingertips
Having a professional stylist at your side can make a world of difference. Theyβre there to make expert recommendations, suggest brands or items you may not have considered, and provide styling tips on the spot. Whether you're shopping for a complete wardrobe overhaul or selecting a few key pieces, a personal stylist can help you build outfits that work for your unique lifestyle and body shape.
Wardrobe Customisation
Your personal shopper can help you build a wardrobe tailored to your specific needs, taking into account everything from your lifestyle (workwear, casual wear, evening events) to colour palettes and even seasonal transitions. This personalisation ensures that every piece you buy can integrate seamlessly into your current wardrobe.
The Challenges of Personal Shopping
Time Commitment
Personal shopping requires you to dedicate time to physically meet with your stylist and visit stores. For busy professionals or those with a packed schedule, finding time to meet in person can be a challenge.Location Constraints
Not all personal shopping services are available in every city, and some may be limited to high-end department stores or specific boutiques. If you live in a smaller town or away from major shopping centres, you may find it difficult to access in-person services.Cost
While the cost of personal shopping has become more affordable in recent years, in-person services are often more expensive than their online counterparts. In addition to paying for the stylistβs time, you may also be encouraged to purchase higher-end items, which can add up quickly.
What is Curated Online Shopping?
Curated Online Shopping allows clients to receive personalised styling advice from a professional stylist remotely, offering convenience and flexibility by providing tailored clothing recommendations online.
The rise of e-commerce has transformed the way we shop, and personal shopping is no exception. With the growing popularity of online personal shopping services, you can now access a professional stylist from the comfort of your home. This option is perfect for those who value convenience and flexibility.
At One Of A Style, our Curated Online Shopping service is designed to bring the same level of personalised styling expertise to your digital doorstep.
The Process
Curated Online Shopping typically begins with an in-depth consultation, conducted either over the phone or via an online questionnaire. This allows your stylist to get a sense of your style, wardrobe needs, and budget. Once they have this information, they will put together a selection of items tailored to your preferences, sending you a curated list or digital lookbook.
You can then purchase the items online, trying them on at home and deciding what works best for you. Many services offer easy returns, allowing you to send back any items that donβt fit or meet your expectations.
The Benefits of Curated Online Shopping
Convenience at Your Fingertips
One of the biggest advantages of Curated Online Shopping is the convenience it offers. You can shop from anywhere β whether youβre at home, at work, or even on holiday. No need to travel to stores, find parking, or fit shopping into your busy schedule. Everything is done online, making it perfect for those with limited time.
Personalised Selections
Just like in-person services, online personal shoppers provide you with tailored recommendations based on your style, preferences, and budget. Many services offer digital lookbooks or personalised shopping lists, allowing you to review and purchase items at your own pace.
Try On at Your Own Pace
Shopping online gives you the freedom to try on items at your leisure, without the pressure of fitting rooms or store time limits. You can take the time to mix and match pieces with your existing wardrobe, see how items fit in different lighting, and make thoughtful purchasing decisions.
Accessible Anywhere
One of the major benefits of online shopping is that itβs accessible no matter where you are. Whether you live in a major city or a rural area, Curated Online Shopping allows you to access the expertise of a personal stylist without having to leave your home.
The Challenges of Curated Online Shopping:
Lack of Immediate Feedback
While online services provide tailored selections, you wonβt receive real-time feedback like you would in a store. If youβre unsure about how something fits or how to style a particular piece, youβll need to reach out to your stylist online, which can take time.Fit and Sizing Issues
Shopping online means you canβt try on items before purchasing them. This can lead to potential fit and sizing issues, requiring you to return or exchange items if they donβt work.Delayed Gratification
Unlike in-person shopping, where you can walk away with your purchases on the same day, online shopping requires you to wait for delivery. This can be frustrating if you need items for an upcoming event or trip.
Comparing the Two: Which One is Right for You?
Now that weβve explored the benefits and challenges of each option, how do you decide which service is right for you? Hereβs a quick comparison:
Feature | Personal Shopping | Curated Online Shopping |
---|---|---|
Convenience | Requires time and travel to meet with a stylist in person. | Accessible from anywhere, no need to leave home. |
Feedback | Real-time, in-person feedback from a stylist. | Delayed feedback, often through emails or chats. |
Physical Experience | Try on items immediately in-store, see how they fit and feel. | Purchase items online, try them at home at your own pace. |
Cost | May involve higher costs, including stylist fees and high-end brands. | More flexible pricing options, and often more affordable. |
Fit and Sizing | You can try on items in person and make adjustments immediately. | Fit issues may arise, requiring returns or exchanges. |
Personalisation | Tailored selections are made in person, with the stylist adjusting as you try on items. | Tailored selections based on your preferences, but without the immediate feedback loop. |
The Best of Both Worlds
Choosing between Personal Shopping and Curated Online Shopping depends on your individual needs, lifestyle, and shopping habits. If you value the tactile experience of in-person shopping and appreciate real-time feedback, Personal Shopping might be the perfect fit for you. GUIDE TO PERSONAL SHOPPING: HOW TO MINIMISE RETURNS & HAVE A SUCCESSFUL SHOPPING TRIP
How can I make sure my shopping trips are more successful (and sustainable)?
In our latest blog, we ask our newest team member, Nathalie, her tips and advice for making your online & high street shopping trips more enjoyable
In this interview with our newest stylist, Nathalie, I discuss the importance of sustainable shopping, and how to effectively maximise your time and minimise returns when you go shopping for new clothes to add to your wardrobe.
Stefania: Nathalie, welcome to the team! Itβs fantastic to have you here. As our newest personal stylist, I know you bring a wealth of experience and passion to the table. Today, Iβd love to talk with you about something that often frustrates our clientsβreturns. We've all been there: you buy something you love in the shop, but when you get home, it just doesnβt work. What are your top tips for minimising returns and making sure a shopping trip is successful?
Nathalie: Thank you, Stefania! Iβm thrilled to be here and to share my thoughts on this topic. Minimising returns really comes down to preparation, understanding your personal style, and being mindful during the shopping process. One of the most important steps is knowing your body shape and what flatters it. Before you even step foot in a shop, having a clear idea of what styles, cuts, and colours work best for you can save a lot of time and reduce the likelihood of buying something that doesnβt quite fit or flatter.
Stefania: Thatβs great advice. What about the actual shopping experience? How can clients ensure theyβre making the right choices in the moment?
Nathalie: When youβre shopping, itβs easy to get caught up in the excitement and buy something just because itβs trendy or because it looks great on the mannequin. But itβs essential to think about how it fits into your existing wardrobe. Ask yourself: Can I style this with at least three different outfits I already own? If the answer is no, it might not be the best choice.
Another tip is to pay close attention to the fabric and quality. Itβs tempting to go for a quick fix, but investing in pieces that are well-made and durable will serve you better in the long run. And donβt be afraid to try things onβwalk around in them, see how they feel, and make sure theyβre comfortable. If something feels off in the fitting room, itβs likely not going to get better at home.
Stefania: I couldnβt agree more. Comfort is key, and itβs something we always stress to our clients. What about online shopping? Thatβs an area where returns seem almost inevitable for many people. Do you have any specific tips for shopping online?
Nathalie: Online shopping can be tricky, but there are ways to make it more successful. First, always check the size guide and read customer reviews, especially when youβre shopping with a brand for the first time. Reviews often give insights into how an item fits and whether you might need to size up or down.
Secondly, if possible, stick to brands and styles youβre familiar with. Youβre more likely to be satisfied with your purchase if you know how the brandβs sizing and cuts typically fit your body. And donβt forget to check the return policy before you buyβknowing you can easily return or exchange an item gives you peace of mind and can encourage you to try new things without too much risk.
Stefania: Excellent points! Itβs all about being informed and mindful. Before we wrap up, do you have any final advice for someone who wants to have a truly successful shopping trip, whether itβs in-store or online?
Nathalie: My final piece of advice would be to trust your instincts and take your time. Shopping should be an enjoyable experience, not something rushed or stressful. If youβre unsure about a piece, donβt feel pressured to buy it on the spot. Take a moment to think about it, or even sleep on it if youβre shopping online. Often, that little bit of extra time can help you make a more confident decision.
And if youβre really looking to minimise returns and ensure that everything you buy is perfect for you, consider working with a personal stylist. We can provide that extra bit of guidance and expertise to help you make choices that youβll love for years to come.
Stefania: Thank you, Nathalie! Thatβs such valuable advice. Iβm sure our readers will find these tips incredibly helpful. And speaking of personal styling, Iβd love to share a bit more about your background with them.

PERSONAL STYLING TIPS: WIDE-LEG TROUSERS AND HOW TO STYLE THEM
Wide-leg trousers are incredibly flattering on most body types, not only are they comfortable and versatile but also effortlessly stylish.
But how do you style them for different occasions? Letβs explore some outfit ideas to inspire your wardrobe.
The Rise of Wide-Leg Trousers: How to Embrace the Trend and Style It with Confidence
For years, skinny trousers and jeans have dominated the world of womenβs fashion, but recently, wide-leg trousers have taken centre stage as the go-to trend. And I suspect, and sincerely hope, that this trend will be here to stay for quite some time.
However, many of my clients initially found it challenging to adapt to this change. Iβve often been asked, βAre wide-leg trousers truly flattering?β and, of course, βHow should I wear wide-leg trousers?β or βWhat tops and jackets pair well with wide-leg trousers?β
Naturally, when the shape of your trousers changes, everything else needs to change tooβfrom your tops to your shoes. But after a couple of years, it seems that even the most sceptical minds have finally embraced this new silhouette. Why do I say βfinallyβ? Because, truly, wide-leg trousers are incredibly flattering on most body types.
Take it from me, as someone with a pear-shaped figure, I struggled for years to find trousers that fit well and made me feel confident. Now, I happily buy and wear wide-leg trousers with ease, finding them not only comfortable and versatile but also effortlessly stylish.
But how do you style them for different occasions? Letβs explore some outfit ideas to inspire your wardrobe:
1. Tailored Vest
Pair your wide-leg trousers with a tailored vest, either in a matching tone or a contrasting colour. This combination offers a polished, chic look that works perfectly for a day at the office or a smart-casual event.
Stylist Tip: When choosing a tailored vest, pay attention to the cut and fit. A well-fitted vest that nips in at the waist will help balance the volume of the wide-leg trousers, creating a streamlined silhouette. If you're on the shorter side, opt for a cropped vest or one that sits just above the hips to elongate your legs. Donβt be afraid to experiment with different texturesβwool, tweed, or even a soft silk can add an extra layer of sophistication to your outfit.
2. Trainers and T-Shirt
For a more relaxed vibe, style your wide-leg trousers with a simple T-shirt and a pair of trainers. This look is perfect for running errands or meeting friends for a casual lunchβcomfortable yet stylish.
Stylist Tip: To keep the look modern and balanced, consider a slightly oversized T-shirt that you can tuck in at the front. This tuck is crucial as it helps define your waist amidst the volume of the trousers. When it comes to trainers, choose a pair with a chunky sole to add height and give the outfit a contemporary edge. If youβre feeling bold, try a graphic or slogan tee to inject some personality into your casual ensemble.
3. Fitted or Cropped Top and Blazer
If youβre after something a bit more refined, try a fitted or cropped top with a blazer. Whether you opt for trainers or heels, this outfit strikes the perfect balance between casual and elegant, making it ideal for both work and social outings.
Stylist Tip: The key to nailing this look is proportions. A fitted or cropped top draws attention to your waist, making it the focal point, while the blazer adds structure and sophistication. For a polished look, go for a blazer that hits just below the hips or opt for a longer, boyfriend-style blazer for a more relaxed, trendy vibe. Donβt shy away from playing with coloursβmonochrome looks are always chic, but a pop of colour in either the top or blazer can really make your outfit stand out.
4. Turtleneck Jumper
For a cosy yet chic look, tuck a turtleneck jumper into your wide-leg trousers and add a belt to cinch the waist. This ensemble is perfect for cooler weather and can be paired with either trainers or heels for a versatile finish.
Stylist Tip: When wearing a turtleneck, consider the thickness of the fabric. A thinner, fitted turtleneck works well for layering and wonβt add unnecessary bulk. If you opt for a chunkier knit, make sure itβs not too longβtucking in just the front section (known as a βFrench tuckβ) can help avoid a bulky look while still giving you that cosy, relaxed feel. Choosing a belt that complements your trousers not only defines your waist but also adds an extra element of styleβopt for one with an interesting buckle or in a contrasting colour to make a statement.
There are so many different styles of wide-leg trousers available, and the details and fabric play a huge role in how they fit and feel. If youβve tried a pair in the past and they didnβt work for you, donβt be discouragedβperhaps that particular style wasnβt the right one for you.
So, if you havenβt already, give wide-leg trousers a try. They might just become your new favourite wardrobe staple, offering both comfort and style in equal measure.
